Movies and Books

Watched a few movies that I thought I should jot down before I forget:

Children of Heaven: (Bachecha-Ye-Aasmaan - Iranian)

Beautiful movie, simple story that shows the intricacies of a lovely relationship between a brother and sister. Touches your heart with some brilliant moments. A movie, I will not forget, a movie that changed my perception of Iranian movies.

Mithya: One time watch. Loved Ranvir Shorey for his performance.

La Buche: A French movie which unfolds a family past, revealing insights into fidelity and the concept of a family. It is a Satire which is nicely done and yet again I think that the French just see life with such a different perspective. Refreshing movie.

Books I Read:
  • White Tiger
  • Manto Ki Kahaniyan(Hindi)
Both were a good Sunday catch.

Random

Another year gone past, fewer blogs read and none updated. Maybe I am not really made for this entire share and care blog space! Or maybe I am just lazy. Possibly my thoughts beat my typing speed; or maybe they just don't make sense in a sentence. Whatever it is, I decided its time to catch hold of them and start to update my blog once again.

The last few weeks have been interesting - Extreme work, extreme socializing, extreme laziness, extreme sleep deprivation, extreme pressures-I guess you get the drift. I have realized that I am happiest in extreme situations except for extreme "nothingness" that I cant deal with. I met most dear friends after a very long time, I indulged in conversations and found a new hangout joint - "Boca Grande!" I am not sure what it is about this place but it just feels good doing nothing here. Maybe cos it is so close from work that it feels good to take off in between and find some "nothing" time. Maybe its the fact that everyone around seems in no hurry, like they have nothing pressing on their mind. Maybe its the fact that conversations and silences just happen at this place. I know that I will visit this place often enough to have memories of it, a few years from now.

I had started to write a play and ended up pressing the delete button and losing most of it. It was annoying but the flip side is that I get to re-write with new sentences yet again. My new apartment is getting done and I hope to move in soon. An audio- room is the highlight of it. Been exploring various sound receivers and speakers. It is phenomenal, how much sound we cant hear or comprehend! I wonder for the more sensitive species how does music sound?

Been trying to break away from my schedule and walk/run again. Has not happened and I realized I am not that determined after all:-( I decided to slow down this weekend, read, write and sleep.

Across these miles I wish you well.
May nothing haunt your heart but sleep.
May you not sense what I don't tell.
May you not dream, or doubt, or weep.

May what my pen this peaceless day
Writes on this page not reach your view
Till its deffered print lets you say
It speaks to someone else than you.

- Across by Vikram Seth

I smiled at you because I thought that you
Were someone else; you smiled back; and there grew
Between two strangers in a library
Something that seemed like love; but you loved me
(If thats the word) because you thought that I
Was other than i was. And by and by
We found we'd been mistaken all the while
From the first glance, that first mistaken smile.

- Mistaken by Vikram Seth.

Been reading his poetry today, yet another random flipping of pages, thoughts and nothingness that feels good.

365 days gone past yet again

Just a quick note on the last year that went by. I am not a big believer in celebrating these universal cliched and important days simply because its too pressurizing to live up to their expectations. After putting in all that effort, I am mostly left wondering - Was it worth it??

But that is besides the point. Time is ticking, another year has gone by and the sun is still rising!

When I look back at this year a few words flash in my mind:

"Travel"
Noida, Chennai, Indore, Nagpur, Mumbai, London, Halifax, Edinburgh, South Africa, Berlin, Singapore, Matheran, Nandi Hills! About a 10th of the year was spent at airports, aircrafts, queues. Loved the safari in South Africa. Enjoyed the walk in Edinburgh. Discovered that Indore is a shoppers paradise and my second home! Reaffirmed my faith in the fact that "Dilli! Not a place for me!". Caught up with people everywhere. Some near dear, some random, some mere acquaintances and some maybe I could have done without;-). Of course hated the traffic scene in Bangalore and added to it by driving around mostly.

"Discovery"
I guess all years, moments are really about discovering something new. A few I ran into this year are
  • I have friends/acquaintances in almost any place I visit.
  • There are a few friends I can pick up a conversation with just like yesterday no matter how long the haitus' in between.
  • No matter how much I plan, I always do my tax investments a day before the deadline.
  • No matter how much of a seasoned travel I become, I always have the most action packed travel and I always run to the airport to board my flight wishing I don't miss it.
  • I have discovered a new perfume for the year;-)
  • The Mayawatis', Umabhartis' will continue to have morchas and I shall continue to be stuck in traffic jams forever.
  • I shall keep buying books at a faster rate than I can read em!
  • I shall spend eternity in trying to find what is the ultimately satisfying job!
  • I am a foolish romantic!
"Conversations"
Those who know me, possibly think that I am a jabber mouth. But I do thrive on conversation. When I don't find anyone I tend to have them in my head.BTW hold on! I meant conversation- a two sided exchange of words.

I have had the most interesting conversations this year with a range of people. I have learnt that unexpected people can tell u the most remarkable things, strange connections can happen just like that and the blogging world has just way too many streams of data leading to information pollution;-)

Any ways folks, writing this from Heathrow airport waiting for my next connection. I hope to write more often this year around. To the all who cared to read - Happy New Year and keep visiting.

Stuck in a moment

In totality she says I exist
In the mind, heart and her inner self
Yet I see another shadow linger by
In those spaces that I reckon were mine

We laugh we glare we look into each others eyes
I reach out and see a reflection in that twinkle
A reflection which is not mine
A hope that does not have me

I smile back like I did not notice
I get back and toss on my bed
I am but i don't exist somehow
I lose myself in those eyes again

We talk endless hours
We share a strange silence
We share her dreams and desires
My ears hopeful of a promise

Maybe its not about a promise
Maybe its not about me
Maybe its just in my mind
Maybe its just not in this life time

I glare at the computer
Stuck in a moment
The shadow, the desire , a life
Just stuck in a moment together...
